Badminton instruction book by roger mills book review

Badminton instructions written by Roger Mills

Let me tell you that being a beginner myself this book has been written in 1975, is still can be practically used. Although the new techniques and regimes introduced nowadays are different from what was prevalent then in practice but, these old techniques which are still are of great importance for learning the basics and then advancing yourself. However I would like to bring to your notice that this book is the first ever photographical and written document pertaining to badminton instructions. Such a great delight of reading this book which had this vintage vibes that kind of takes you in that era. The background is that this book was written when badminton was not even an Olympic game. I had no idea that badminton was not a game in Olympic until 1992.

Now coming to the book the instructions given are precisely written that any layman can understand it easily. The pictures are black and white and some are quite quirky or I would say trippy with continuous actions are visible in a single snap. The book has a guide for every type of badminton game whether it be singles or doubles and even mixed doubles and also contains info about the the court, history of badminton, attire, required gear, general rules and tips ,exercises and most importantly the essentials of badminton playing that is the grip, stance, footwork and so on. To break the monotony, at  some places the writer had made some jocular statements and are fun to read on.

There are some old vintage things which are quite astonishing to know how it were then and how it is now. The promotion of this sport went throughout the globe and how it became one of the Olympic games. In those day the all England championship was recognised as the unoffical world championship another fun fact.

One more fun fact that badminton creation has a connection with india. The britishers from the India colonies went to england at a club named badminton and they played this game. This is how badminton was originated. Nowadays badminton has become a well known game in India as many laurels have been achieved globally by our players. But still people (be of any age) dont get the opportunity due to lack of infrastructure facilities. No indoor courts, nets and even if you find one their conditions are miserable.

This book was a pure coincidence for me to get it. Out of no where I got my eye on this book. Wanted to read a novel but this book came in my hand as a surprise. And I felt that I should give it a read due to my craze and love for this game. This is my first ever sport book review and I hope u guys like it.
